About us
Swedish Motor Insurers (TFF) is an organisation for cooperation between insurance companies that sell motor third party liability (MTPL) insurance in Sweden. We play a central role in the Swedish motor insurance system.
Our activities are mainly governed by the provisions of the Motor Traffic Damage Act and the Traffic Insurance Ordinance. The Government determines our statutes and under these we are subject to supervision by Finansinspektionen (Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority).
We have a staff of about 120 people. Most work in the areas of payment demands and debt collection, law, claims settlement and development of our IT systems.
All insurance companies that sell MTPL insurance in Sweden under the Motor Traffic Damage Act must be members of TFF. Our activities are partly financed through our own revenue that largely consists of the MTPL insurance charge. However, the costs of the claims we pay compensation for are always higher. The deficit that arises is paid jointly and severally by TFF’s members. Financing is through annual contributions to TFF based on the individual insurance company’s market share of MTPL insurance.
TFF was established in 1929 when MTPL insurance became compulsory in Sweden.
