Frontier insurance
Frontier insurance is for those who wish to bring a vehicle into Sweden for a limited time, not for those who buy a vehicle abroad and import it into Sweden. If you import a vehicle into Sweden it must be registered here within seven days. More information can be found on the Swedish Transport Agency’s website.
Frontier insurance is a motor third party liability (MTPL) insurance policy that compensates damage and injury caused by the vehicle to another person, another vehicle or someone else’s property, in accordance with the legislation of the country where the claim was incurred. Frontier insurance does not compensate damage to your vehicle or property in the vehicle.

Take out frontier insurance
You can only take out and pay for frontier insurance at the Swedish Customs Service at one of their customs clearance offices. The vehicle must be in Sweden or at the border with Sweden. You will find information on where these customs clearance offices are on the Swedish Customs Service website. Thus you cannot buy frontier insurance online, via email or by post.
A frontier insurance policy is valid for at least 30 days throughout the EEA area and Switzerland. If you wish to extend it you need to do so before the insurance lapses. You can hold a frontier insurance policy for a maximum of one year. Contact the Swedish Transport Agency if your vehicle will be in Sweden for more than one year.
You cannot purchase a Swedish frontier insurance policy for a vehicle registered in Sweden. The same applies to vehicles registered in another country within the EU/EEA area, or in Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Switzerland, Serbia and the United Kingdom.
The EEA area includes all EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Report claims to us
If you are in a traffic accident during the time the vehicle has frontier insurance you must report the claim to us at TFF, not to the Swedish Customs Service. In Sweden we are responsible for frontier insurance and consequently we settle the claims.
