What does the payment demand refer to?
Uninsured vehicle
The payment demand from us applies either to a vehicle that has not had motor third party liability (MTPL) insurance for a certain period or a vehicle that is uninsured when the payment demand is sent.
When your vehicle lacks MTPL insurance you must pay a charge for each day your vehicle is uninsured. This is called a MTPL insurance charge. The debt increases as long as your vehicle is uninsured.
The vehicle is now insured
You must pay the charge for the days the vehicle was uninsured.
We act on the basis of information we have when the payment demand letter is created. If you insured your vehicle after we sent the payment demand you will receive a new updated payment demand from us when we receive the new information. To see the relevant amount, you can log in to My pages, where you can also pay what you owe with Swish.
The vehicle is still uninsured
You must immediately insure your vehicle with an insurance company. If you do not use the vehicle, you should notify it as off road to the Swedish Transport Agency. Remember that a vehicle notified as off road may not be driven.
As long as your vehicle is uninsured, we will continue to send payment demands to you. When you have insured the vehicle or notified it as off road you will receive a payment demand for the amount remaining to be paid.
The relevant amount is shown in My pages. As long as your vehicle is uninsured you can also see how much the debt grows per day.

Unpaid vehicle insurance
If you fail to pay your vehicle insurance in time the insurance company sends a reminder to you. During the reminder period the insurance company keeps your vehicle insured pending your payment.
If you do not pay the reminder amount before the last date of payment the insurance cover ceases. The insurance company then transfers the cost of the unpaid insurance to us. If you consider that the information in the payment demand is incorrect you must contact the insurance company.
When the insurance cover ceases the vehicle becomes uninsured. You then receive a payment demand from us for both the unpaid vehicle insurance and the MTPL insurance charge for an uninsured vehicle.
If you pay the insurance company after the insurance cover has ceased, you are regarded as having applied for a new insurance policy starting on the day after your payment.
Unpaid excess
If you own a vehicle that is involved in an accident you may need to pay an excess, which means pay part of the costs arising from the accident.
The insurance company pays compensation to the person or persons who are entitled to it. The insurance company then sends an invoice for the excess to you. If you do not pay it in time, they can transfer the case to us at Swedish Motor Insurers (TFF). We then send a payment demand to you for unpaid excess.
Read more about excess in your insurance terms and conditions.
Cost of claim
At TFF we handle claims in which at least one vehicle involved is uninsured. If you own or drive such a vehicle that is deemed to have caused the accident you are liable to pay part, or in some cases all, of the compensation to the other party.
The least you as owner are liable to pay is 10 per cent of the price base amount applicable in the year the claim occurred. 10 per cent of this year’s price base amount (2025) is SEK 5,880. In some cases, we may have the right to require the driver to pay all costs of the claim, for example if the driver has been convicted of a serious criminal offence in connection with the accident.
Please contact our Claims Department if you have questions about your claim.
